quasi.modo
querying and unifying architecture for semantic integration of multidimensional orchestrated disciplinary observations
Quasi.modo is a conceptual and technical architecture dedicated to the exploration, integration, and interoperability of data and knowledge produced around complex heritage objects. Its name is an acronym of "Querying and Unifying Architecture for Semantic Integration of Multidimensional Orchestrated Disciplinary Observations", expressing both its function (to query, unify, and structure) and its ambition: to articulate multiple disciplinary observations within a logic of semantic convergence.
The dot separating Quasi and modo is intentional: it marks a critical articulation. It symbolizes both a functional connector and an intellectual modularity between an open, evolving approach (quasi, "almost", "in formation") and a methodical structure (modo, "manner", "mode"). This punctuation reflects the project's nature: an interstitial space (neither rigid nor strictly normative) but orchestrated to enable the reasoned coexistence of sometimes heterogeneous disciplinary logics.
The implicit reference to Quasimodo, the emblematic character from Victor Hugo's novel Notre-Dame de Paris, refers to the marginal yet central character, physically deformed but deeply human, guardian of the cathedral and silent witness to its history. He embodies a form of sensitive knowledge, situated above, between the visible and the invisible. Likewise, quasi.modo aspires to be a digital guardian of scientific data related to Notre-Dame and other heritage sites, capable of embracing the complexity of their multidisciplinary documentation while preserving the singularity of each scholarly perspective.
Rooted in the scientific work conducted around the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris, the quasi.modo project seeks to enable n-dimensional semantic integration (spatial, temporal, morphological, lexical, and methodological). It offers a unified yet flexible framework, where data from 3D digitization, geolocated annotations, archives, scientific analyses, and mnemograms (spatialized narrative accounts) can be explored, linked, and queried using rigorous, documented, and adaptable research protocols.
Quasi.modo is neither just an acronym nor simply a software platform. It is a knowledge mediation system, a bridge between disciplines, an augmented observatory of scientific and professional practices—echoing the character whose name it evokes, and the monument whose memory it inherits.
Beta testing program
The beta testing program will allow a limited number of heritage researchers and professionals to test the quasi.modo platform in advance.
Registrations will be available from Spring 2026.
